How is the movie helpful to the cryptocurrency economy?
The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin does well to explain what its title suggests. It proposes that the journey has just begun and that the coin’s disruptive element will be felt for a long time to come.
While acknowledging the dark side of Bitcoin, the movie features an interview with an early adopter of the cryptocurrency, who also happens to be a drug dealer. The film however, fails to address the concerns of more prudent economists such as Brad DeLong and the New York Times Op-Ed columnist Paul Krugman, over whether the coin is actually a store of value.
TRRB also tackles the two stains on Bitcoins existence, Silk Road and MT.Gox. However, these two events have proven to be learning curves and the platform has matured. Bitcoin “believers” are convinced that the cryptocurrency has the ability to significantly disrupt or even completely replace traditional banking and money transfer systems.
While the movie does not quite inspire you to change your dollars for Bitcoins now, it does its job well by explaining what Bitcoin is and why it has so much potential. Bitcoin entrepreneurs featured in the movie have also shown that mining is not a “get rich quick scheme”
If you still aren’t sure about what Bitcoin is, TRRB is a must watch. The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin, directed by Nicholas Mross, features Daniel Mross as he learns more about what “the currency of the future”
